August 4th was the date when Brothers Keith Ash and Alan Foxall set off via Luton Airport with a party of 10 children from Queensbury School, Erdington, Birmingham for the Holiday of a Lifetime courtesy of the Brethren of the Cyprus Province.
We were met at Larnaca Airport by HOALT chairman Bro Ray Lish and his wife Erica, Bro Neil Tunstall and our driver for the two weeks, Mr Chris. The rest of that day and all the next were spent in and around the hotel to give everyone a chance to get acclimatised. On Wednesday the afternoon was spent Go Karting followed by a disco at the hotel. Thursday it was ten pin bowling, while on Friday there was a visit to the Ayia Napa Water Park and the big thrill water slides.
Next day we visited the castle at Limassol where Richard the Lionheart was married, then off shopping for presents and lunch in the Woodman Pub. Sunday we were all taken for a day’s sailing along the coast in a catamaran.
Our second week started with a trip into the Troodos mountains to Mount Olympus. It’s quite a climb but well worth the effort. More trips to beaches, water parks, the zoo and the homes of various Brothers kept us all well occupied and entertained for the rest of our stay. On our last day Bros Alan and Keith visited Pride of Cyprus Troodos Forest [sic] Lodge where we received a great welcome and Bro Keith had the pleasure of presenting a cheque for £6,500 on behalf of the Warwickshire Province for the Holiday of a Lifetime Scheme.
So it was that a party of weary holidaymakers flew back to the UK with memories which will last for many years, if not for a lifetime.
